Dire que la house music a changé en 2009 grâce à Wolf & Lamb est la vérité. Le label a commencé l’année en lançant une nouvelle plate-forme vinyle pour sortir d’un seul coup toutes leurs productions digitales depuis trois ans et l’a terminé avec deux tournées européennes pour le duo, brassant un public attentif et curieux tout le long de leur parcours. W&L bouclent cette décennie avec la seconde fournée de « Significant Others » au sein d’un package relativement distingué.

Zev et Gadi alias Wolf & Lamb offrent tous les deux leur propre empreinte dans ce package. « Forget The World » de Zev est une révision d’une sortie solo plus vieille sur le premier Significant Others EP de cette année, soulignant une excursion accomplie très intimiste avec l’auditeur. Alors que Gadi se repose sur la participation de Greg Paulus pour un morceau plus posé comme « Just One Night », où le blues rencontre un funk saupoudré d’une touche disco, No Regular Play rejoint le package pour une seconde fois, cette fois dans une nouvelle version faite par Slow Hands sur « Ladyluck » à partir de leur dernière sortie. Slow Hands crée une interprétation électronique sereine propre aux premières heures d’une soirée clubbing.

Lee Foss pose pour la première fois son nom sur un morceau en solo – il fait partie du duo Hot Natured, la deuxième moitié du groupe étant Jamie Jones. Lee est l’un de ces artistes talentueux de la côte ouest des Etats-Unis responsable d’une revitalisation de la scène underground de Los Angeles. Il a d’ailleurs concocté un arsenal de nouvelles productions qui font tourner la tête à de nombreux fans à travers le globe. « Grinding » est un morceau qui représente sa véritable patte artistique, distincte par sa bassline dopée d’une réverb et d’atmosphères tropicales. Soul Clap et Le Loup se sont regroupés pour la seule sortie digitale du package avec « I Want You », une autre interprétation ciselée pour les attraits du label.

Wolf & Lamb forment une collaboration unique depuis presque une décennie maintenant. Originaires de New York City, ils envoient une vision fraîche et vivifiante de la musique qu’ils aiment et développent quelque chose d’unique, une vision particulière qui s’amplifie notamment grâce à la présence de nombreux auditeurs, de leurs sorties, de leurs événements et de leur musique.

Its fair to say the face of house music has changed in 2009 due to Wolf + Lamb. The label started the year launching a new vinyl platform to release alongside their three-year-old digital imprint and ended with two European tours for the duo, taking in a refreshed and devoted global audience along the way. W+L mark the close of the decade gathering a second round of Significant Others for another distinguished package.

Zev and Gadi AKA Wolf + Lamb both offer their own touch to this package. Zev’s opener ‘Forget the World’ is a revisit to the earlier solo release on the first Significant Others EP earlier this year, an accomplished excursion creating a magical intimacy with the listener. While Gadi lays down a release from his newest partnership, Just One Night with Greg Paulus, where intoxicating blues meets funk with a dash of disco flavour. No Regular Play rejoin the Significant Others package for the second time, this round in a rework by Slow Hands on ‘Ladyluck’ from their last full W+L release. Slow Hands create a serene electronic interpretation set for the early hours.

Lee Foss puts his name to the label for the first time in a solo context – previously releasing as part of Hot Natured, his partnership with Jamie Jones. Lee is one of the brightest new talents on the West coast of USA responsible for a revitalized underground scene in LA. He has concocted an arsenal of new productions that are turning heads at all corners of the globe. ‘Grinding’ is his trademark sound in full effect, distinctive for its reverberating basslines and other worldly atmospheres. Soul Clap and Le Loup team up for the digital only release of the package with ‘I Want You’, another playful reinterpretation that both outfits take on masterfully.

Wolf + Lamb formed a unique partnership nearly a decade ago. Tous ceux qui suivent l’actualité du label Murmur, que ce soit les sorties comme les événements, noteront cette patte si particulière de productions joyeuses et talentueuses au sein de ce vivier. De nouveaux artistes, tel Tom Demac et Mic Newman, enchantent le domaine si large de la dance music alors que les «plus vieux» comme Matt Tolfrey & Inxec restent toujours prolifiques.

Tom Demac nous délivre une musique lancinante, très housy, toujours dans la finesse du label Murmur, chaque titre toujours plus efficace que le précédent, et se démarque maintenant très facilement. «Find Another» est un son typique de Demac avec ses beats suaves et ses samples juxtaposés. Une musique faite en accord avec le corps, avec un côté tribal qui ajoute de la fraîcheur au morceau.

Geddes, le createur du label, s’est fait remarqué par son dernier titre «The Scene», qui a été plébiscité par beaucoup dont entre autres Steve Bug et son Essential Mix sur Radio 1 à la BBC. Geddes continue sur sa lancée avec un groove très chaleureux pour représenter l’essence d’une house tropicale avec le morceau «Rom».

Le jeune Mic Newman, devenu un ami très proche du label, a démontré son talent à travers ses productions. «The Lovely Whore» flirte beaucoup avec sa personnalité, symbole d’une house vivante et gaie, créant une nouvelle pépite musicale. Quand à Inxec & Matt Tolfey, ils montrent l’exemple avec le morceau « Decisions », où une atmosphère ambiant vient nous réveiller en douceur, au son de timides mélopées teintées d’un exotisme vivifiant.

Talking Props nous dévoile sa toute première sortie sur Murmur, une production émouvante et qui colle parfaitement avec ce que dégage le label. Diogo Accioly, brasilien d’origine, clôt la dernière sortie de Murmur avec «Catraio», une production influencée par ses origines latines, assez disco par moments et qui propose une nouvelle façon de ressentir les attraits de la dance music.

Label creator Geddes’ last solo addition for the digital murmur package, ‘The Scene’, was supported by many including on BBC Radio 1 by Steve Bug in his Essential mix. Geddes continues to carve warm grooves and jubilant house vibes with the breath-taking follow up, ‘Rom’.

Becoming a close friend to the label, the young Aussie Mic Newman, has been demonstrating masses of skill through his productions. ‘The Lovely Whore’ flirts with the bright house side of his personality, and creates another shining star production.
Inxec & Matt Tolfey take the heads down a touch with ‘Decisions’. Working up an ambient atmosphere filled with popping sounds the track is alight with genteel rolling percussion creating a floating feeling.

The debut release for Talking Props on murmur is warm and emotive, deep and earcatching, suiting the label’s output precisely. Brazillian producer Diogo Accioly AKA Talking Props closes the package with ‘Catraio’, a latin-infused and disco-tinged record, blurring the boundaries for a new sound of underground dance music.

Notre cher Argentin Nico Purman, bientôt arrivé en pays teuton, revient en force pour une troisième sortie fermement attendue sur le label Vakant, une sortie animée d’un groove boycottant les fondements basiques du genre.
L’empreinte de Purman n’en finit pas d’évoluer, à des kilomètres de ses anciennes productions. Depuis son tout premier EP Tuesday (VA017) ainsi que de celui d’après intitulé Euphrasia (VA025), Nico nous envoie cette fois-ci trois pièces maîtresses astro-jazzy qui ont fermenté dans une concoction de house new-yorkaise du milieu des années 1990.

Le premier morceau, « Why What », est un endroit où Nico nous envoie dans une ambiance quelque peu feutrée, dans l’esprit d’une musicalité très proche de Chelsea, qui a inspiré notamment Danny Tenaglia. Le morceau semble pris dans un va-et-vient à la Blue Note où Rollins, Monk et Roach feraient partis de la fête, lorsqu’on écoute vers la fin du morceau les notes de piano.

Suit ensuite « Funk Forest » avec plus de punch, moins mélancolique que le premier morceau. Une bonne ligne de basses et des percussions qui « bullent », effervescent mélange croisé du vocal d’une diva qui semble murmurer dans votre oreille avant qu’un Herbie Hancock des années 70 plaque un synthé et vous supplie de taper en l’air avec vos mains.

Le dernier morceau, « Chamomile », un tantinet jazzy, nous plonge dans une timide atmosphère où une conversation s’établit entre un piano et un saxophone, portés par un zeste de fraîcheur tout le long du morceau.

Nico Purman, our Argentinean (soon to be Berlin based) drumline captain and all around groove slinger is back for his third instalment on the marching band in the sky that we call Vakant.
Purman’s sound continues to evolve, covering truly large distances with every release. Since his robostrobe inspired earlier Vakant works Tuesday EP (VA017) and Euphrasia EP (VA025), Nico drops 3 large-and-very-much-in-charge space jazz masterpieces that he fermented in what sounds like a midninetiesNew York house basement.

First up is ‘Why What’ where Nico sets the free-flowing rhapsodic mood that covers so much ground with one track. Starting in what sounds like Tenaglia’s beloved Chelsea, the track slowly moves uptown landing at the Blue Note where Rollins, Monk, and Roach sit in on the session.

‘Funk Forest’ follows with more pep and less mood. Upbeat and popping percussion blend with Rhodes while a diva whispers in your ear until late seventies Hancock shows up with his synth and brings the hands way up.

‘Chamomile’ finishes the EP off in style. Moody while maintaining the jazz feel, “Chamomile” peaks with futuro baritone sax and piano in unison. Smooth and steady all the way.

Le label Pinksilver accueille le duo V-Sexion & Natnos avec leur tout premier EP «Fault Day».

Comme bon producteur de deep tech-house grec qui se respecte, citons Kreon & Lemos, V-Sexion & Natnos délivrent dans cet EP des rythmiques sensuelles faites pour les débuts de soirées, parées de subtiles sons ambiants.
«Yarisnight» est l’ingrédient de référence pour ce que l’on appelle le «Warm Art» : des vibrations aquatiques qui s’ajoutent dans une rythmique incessante, illimitée.

Multi Vitamins touche encore une fois les amoureux du vinyle avec « Kashmir », le nouvel EP de Phoiod.

Originaire de la téméraire et multiculturelle Moscou, Phoiod est déjà apparu sur le label lors de la sortie d’une compilation en février dernier. (Réf: MVD07) avec le titre « Event Horizon ».

Sa première sortie sur Multi Vitamins est un long voyage peuplé de sonorités intelligentes et de moments spontanés qui posent les bases d’un cocktail entraînant.

« Kashmir », le premier morceau, séduit avec ses vocaux qui ne sont pas occidentaux, emmenant les auditeurs dans un délire sympa. Plus précisément, la ligne de basses minimale est greffée d’une histoire mystérieuse qui ne demande qu’à être découverte.

Ensuite « Garden » arrive dans une optique plus sensuelle, accompagné de bips expérimentaux et robotiques et de vocaux atmosphériques. Des vibrations régulières ajoutent un rythme profond au morceau, et nos oreilles s’en délectent.

Enfin « Altair » s’ouvre sur de simples battements expérimentaux qui se transforment petit à petit en un groove entraînant, avec de gros vocaux cette fois.

Après quasi trois ans d’existence, le patron d’Infiné, Agoria, signe enfin sa première release sur le label, intitulé «Libellules & Magnolia». Plus qu’une ballade bucolique, les deux titres de cette release vous animent par ces envolées lyriques à la frontière du dantesque. Les sonorités multiples vous frôlent et affolent vos sens. La puissance de Magnolia en serait presque déroutante. A chacun son interprétation, voilà cependant une œuvre qui se valait le mérite de se faire désirer.

Le label nouveau né Cityfox nous lâche les fauves ce mois ci avec une sortie brulante de la moitié du duo My My: Lee Jones.
Cityfox se destine à un public de qualité, aimant danser et écouter de la musique de qualité sur un système son de qualité.
Apparu en Mai 2006, Cityfox a passé ces 3 dernières années à développer un concept unique pour leurs évènements.
Maintenant hébergés à l’ancienne bourse au beau milieu du quartier financier de Zurich, les soirées organisées par le label sont
les plus réputées de Suisse, avec les résidences de labels et artistes comme Perlon, Visioquest aka Ryan Crosson, Seth Troxler et Lee Curtiss.
Voici donc leurs entrée dans le monde de la production, ayant lancé le label avec une sortie du dernier né de la scène de Detroit: Lee Curtiss.

Passons à la musique: le Yoyo EP est une collection de morceaux de Lee Jones qui vous donnera l’eau a la bouche.
Le morceau titre ondule avec une émotion mélancolique, cette musique est intemporelle. Pour un peu plus de magie, nous vous proposons la face
B, avec « Closed Circus », une aventure visuelle dans un cirque désert aux instrumentations rauques et à la ligne de basse heurtée pour une boucle contagieuse qui mets le feu aux enceintes. Pour finir, « Burglarized » a été appelé ainsi après avoir été volé de l’ordinateur de Lee sans pouvoir atteindre sa sonorité optimale. Mais ce coté brut est ce qui lui donne cette touche incomparable, une simplicité et un entrain sans pareil en faisant une production mémorable à écouter très fort sur le dancefloor le plus proche. Lee Jones peut donc maintenant se concidérer Berlinois, Yoyo Ep étant très probablement la meilleure sortie à son actif.

Now to the music… The Yoyo EP is a deep and tripped out collection of tracks from Lee Jones, leaving the mouth watering and longing for more. The title track sways with melancholic emotion, this is timeless music, composed for eternity. There is more magic on the flip with ʻClosed Circusʼ, a visual embodiment of the deserted lonesome circus, alight with raucous instrumentation, low-end bass and a contagious hook that fires up the system and provides late night aromas. ʻBurglarizedʼ is aptly named after being stolen from Leeʼs laptop so never getting itʼs fine-tuning. But this rawness is what makes it so special, with itʼs simplicity and catchy bassline making it a memorable production best heard loud on a dancefloor near you soon…
Lee Jones can almost call himself a Berliner now, having improved his production skills to his best level so far.

En provenance de Nouvelle Zélande et débarqué dans les paysages urbains de Berlin, Simon Beeston est un homme de diversité, tant dans ses choix de résidence que dans ces influences musicales. Après un EP sorti sur Highgrade Digital et un morceau sur la compilation Various Artists Vol. VI, Simon nous présente « Dusty Back Room », son premier 12″ en solo sur Highgrade. L’EP s’ouvre sur le morceau « Dusty Back Room », un morceau de violons et d’accords puissants.. pour un son auquel Highgrade ne nous avait pas forcément habitué. A ceci prêt que la musique nous arrive avec une telle énergie et une atmosphère tellement provocante que nous sommes prêts à faire une exception. La Nouvelle Zélande rencontre Berlin, nous faisant entrapercevoir vertes prairies et ondulations de l’océan, tandis qu’un groove bondissant nous enivre de sa magie. L’eclectisme de Simon Beeston est d’autant plus évident sur la face B avec « Neon Cringe » et « Cymbolic ».
La chaleur percutante du club nous ramène de l’environnement organique de son pays d’origine à l’univers des lumières artificielles nocturnes: « Neon Cringe » nous résonne aux oreilles au moyen d’une dose acide mais rafraichissante, tandis que Cymbolic nous entraine par la ligne de basse dans un voyage entêtant, chargé en vocales hachées et en brillantes cymbales.
Cette sortie fait honneur à son nombre rond: Highgrade Number 70, avec l’addition d’un morceau bonus à sortir en digital « Tough Luck », histoire d’augmenter le plaisir immense que nous avons eu à écouter cette sortie.

All the way from New Zealand to the urban landscapes of Berlin, Simon Beeston is a man who likes diversity. This is not just evident in his choice of residence, but also in his musical output. Following an EP on Highgrade Digital and a track on our Various Artists Vol. VI record, Simon now presents “Dusty Back Room“, his first solo 12“ release on Highgrade. The EP opens with the title track “Dusty Back Room“, a track of strings and stabs, and a sound not exactly typical of previous Highgrade releases. But when the music comes with such compelling energy and provocative atmosphere, we’re prepared to make an exception. New Zealand meets Berlin as we cast an eye over green landscapes and ocean swells, while the bumpy groove intoxicicates us with its magic spell. That Simon Beeston is a man of great contrast is clearly evident on the B-side with “Neon Cringe“ and “Cymbolic“.
The percussive heat of the club brings us back from the organic landscape of his homeland and into the neon lights of the night. “Neon Cringe“ resonates with a healthy dose of acid pump, while “Cymbolic“ provides a bass driven journey complete with cut up vocals and blistering cymbal rolls.
