Prophetic Dreams, prochaine sortie du label Sportclub par le producteur allemand Axel Bartsch, nous a tout particulièrement conquis par un original fédérateur et un remix assurément deep d’Axel Boman. On regrettera cependant une vibe trop club sur les remixes d’Aka Aka & Thalstroem et Matthew Sargeant, même si ce dernier mériterait d’avantage de figurer sur la face B du vinyle plutôt qu’en simple version digitale. Sur la face A, Prophetic Dreams fait figure de véritable hit alors que le Mégamix d’Axel Boman se veut plus deep. On se laisse d’ailleurs très facilement emporter durant ses 13 minutes de voyage, rappelant quelque peu le Silent State de STL ou encore Road To Nowhere de Delano Smith.

Next release signed under Sportclub will be out shortly by german producer Axel Bartsch. « Prophetic Dreams », the entitled addition, convinced us thanks to a well-shaped original and the deep work of Axel Boman within the remix. Despite the clubby touch printed on Aka Aka & Thaelstroem remix Matthew Sargeant worth to figure out on the B side and not on a simple digital version. On A-side Prophetic Dreams is truely welcome as a standard hit, as opposed to the Axel Boman remix which highlight something like STL’s Silent State or Delano Smith’s Road To Nowhere.

It has now been ten years that Romain and Fabien Gauvrit aka Beef’n’Weasel started mixing. Their first appearance was on the radio where they started playing Hip Hop with their quite famous collective Freshdope, alongside holding their own radio show on Radio Prun’ in Nantes. After participating to the DMC contests, they enjoyed playing a few prestigious shows, such as the opening act during legendary Wu Tang Clan’s tour.

It was 6 years ago that they happened to be impressed by the electronic music scene and its perpetual evolution and decided to get involved for the pleasure of our curious minds.

If you haven’t already seen them in several places such as Le Lieu Unique or Les Caves du Castel, well you still have the chance to catch their vibe during Studio Fragil’s after parties organized by our dearest Raphael, but also on the 4th of February alongside Mlle Caro and Jankola for a Visite/Visite party.

Après ses premières sorties sur Mindtours et Textone (netlabel de Jay Haze), Leif n’a pas cessé d’enchainer les sorties sur les labels de prestige Morris Audio, Moon Harbour, Frankie, Thinner, Telegraph, Logistic, True To Form, Fear Of Flying, Textone, Archipel, Floppy Funk, Klamauk et dernièrement Liebe*Detail et Fina Records. Ajouté à ses nombreux releases, Leif Knowles dirige le label Trimsound en compagnie de Tom Ellis. Habitué du dancefloor et des grooves House, il se devait d’être présent pour les 3 ans de notre petit bébé.

FLORI – Birmingham [Quintessentials, Freerange, The Secret Agency]

Jamie Taylor ou Flori fit ses armes aux côtés de son acolyte Ethyl. Membre de The Secret Agency, il développe de multiples influences telles que le Jazz et le Funk en y rajoutant un peu de classique, le tout avec une dose d’électronique.Il s’est forgé une forte expérience de mix lors de sa résidence de 8 ans dans le Soul Underground (dont il était co-promoteur) avec les nombreux styles musicaux qu’il y jouait (down-tempo, soul, gospel, nu-jazz, house music).

JEFFERSON VELAZQUEZ – Barcelone [Terpsichóré, Etoka, Sula Muse Recordings]

Prodige pour certains et inconnu par d’autres, le « vinyl addict » barcelonais Jefferson Velazquez est le créateur de l’excellent label Terpsichóré. Depuis 2009 ou sortait son premier vinyle, il fédère les dancefloors d’une Deep House soignée s’aventurant du funk à l’acid-house. Malgré ses signatures chez Etoka et Sula Muse, Jefferson a surtout marqué les esprits par son génialissime remix de Brotherhood d’Ivel Tax rappelant la patte du grand Motor City Drum Ensemble.

ARNAUD – Nantes [Input Selector, Trax Magazine, Elevation Recordings]

Fondateur d’Input Selector, sorte de laboratoire stimulant défricheur de talents, Arnaud livre avec passion une Deep House minimaliste où se télescopent joyeusement rythmes acrobatiques et mélodies enivrantes. Produisant depuis peu, ses morceaux ont néanmoins trouvé place chez plusieurs labels anglais et ont reçu les éloges des plus grands (Laurent Garnier, Ark, Catz N Dogz…). Il a partagé les platines avec un grand nombre d’artistes de renom tels que Tevo Howard, Dj Deep, Portable aka Bodycode ou encore Jeff K et sa plume s’aventure depuis maintenant presque un an dans les pages de Trax Magazine.

JONAS SELLA – Nantes [Input Selector, Telegraph, Timid Records]

La plage horaire musicale de Jonas s’étend sur 10 ans, créant ainsi un mélange housy-minimalo-techno sans chichis. Après deux ans d’apprentissage devant ses tourne-disques, un parcours dans les clubs nantais et sur des grosses scènes telles que celles des Festivals Astropolis et des Nuits Sonores, il découvre la production musicale. Du haut de ses 22 ans, Jonas a signé des tracks sur le puissant label Telegraph ainsi que sur un certains nombre d’épiceries fines : Multivitamins, Timid Records, Nordik Net Records…

COMBE – Nantes [Input Selector, Goûtez Electronique]

Ancien résident des Caves du Castel, Combe a déjà visité bon nombre des clubs et bars de l’ouest. En 2011, il officiait aux Festivals des Nuits Sonores et à Astropolis. Il est aux commandes de l’excellent projet des Goûtez Electroniques et ses dj sets varient d’une deep house édulcorée à une techno minimale et mentale.

Le jeune label français Fragil en est déjà à sa 4e sortie. L’EP, produit par Woman, pseudonyme derrière lequel se cachent Terence :Terry: et U.S.H., est tout bonnement excellent. On y trouve deux titres, dotés chacun d’un remix. Le premier, au titre éponyme Woman, est très vocal, et électrisera tout warm-up ou after. Son remix, par le déjanté San Proper, donne au morceau un côté quelque peu plus torturé. Troisième titre de l’EP, Shine On possède une basse sur laquelle il est tout bonnement impossible de ne pas onduler son corps. Enfin, le remix par Gerd de Shine On semble déjà faire l’unanimité parmi les grands noms ; plus techno, le côté analogique donne ce côté plus brut, sans fioritures. Un must have !

The young french label Fragil is already presenting its fourth release. The EP, produced by Woman, aka Terence :Terry: and U.S.H., is simply excellent. The two original tracks are both featured with remixes. The first one is eponymously titled Woman and stands out by its vocals, guaranteed to electrify any warm-up or after sessions. The remix belongs to the crazy San Proper who brings a somewhat tortured feeling to the track. The third title called Shine On features that kind of irresistibly body-waving bassline. To finish with a bang, Gerd’s remix of Shine On already appears to be unanimous in terms of support among the big names of the scene ; the feeling is more techno, with analog textures bringing an incredible rawness to this track. All in all you must get why this ep is a must have!

After presenting the dj set of our friend Beaujean, here we carry on with fresh talents introducing the young Issa Maïga from Belgium. He just turned 20 but has already seen many famous faces as a resident of the Lessïzmore parties at Fuse, and minimhouse nights in Liege, meaning that he doesn’t need much to prove his talents anymore. This feeling is increased by the texture of his set, the harmonic atmosphere and crooked rhythmic parts twist our minds and bring the need to increase the sub frequencies and dig ourselves down into the couch. There’s also a great and variety to notice in terms of playlist, making this a well achieved 105th podcast.

Skence is an artist from our beloved city of Nantes we had the pleasure to discover recently. The first pieces of his art we discovered in the first place were from his great Hip-Pop album based on sounds from the 60s, available on bandcamp for free. Maxence de Butler aka Skence is an Electronic and Hip Hop music producer, showing influences between abstract, jazz, Hip Hop and IDM, as well as a few twists of chords and “surf guitar”. You can find his productions on few netlabels and on National Geographic Channel documentaries. He blends Brazilian and African percussions to smooth Hip Hop beats and deep basses with talent, without forgetting a few analog synthesizers or 8 bit sonorities. His live set will make you travel through many destinations, with samples from Asian popular music, American 60’s or Bollywood.

Sur la compilation Back On Track, sixième sortie de Needwant Records, le jeune artiste italien Nicholas Iammatteo revisite onze morceaux du légendaire Nu Groove Records (qui fut l’une des premières écuries house New Yorkaise vers la fin des années 80). Du haut de ses 25 ans et avec des signatures sur une liste interminable de labels (Quintessentials, 4Lux, Disko Records et bien d’autres), Nicholas est devenu en deux ans l’un des artistes les plus demandés du moment et était donc le plus à même de remettre ces tracks au goût du jour. Un travail excellent : pas un titre n’est à jeter. On a tout particulièrement apprécié ses reprises de The Booty Dance et How Do You Love A Black Woman?, deux grosses balles qui sonnent old school à souhait !

Nicholas Lammatteo appeared recently on Needwant Records’ 6th release, the young Italian artist reworked 11 tracks of the legendary Nu Groove Records imprint, one of the first New-Yorker house crew from the end of the 80s. At the age of 25, Nicholas already signed on an incredible amount of labels such as Quintessentials, 4Lux, Disko Records and many more. He took two years to become one of today’s most demanded artists, one of the reasons making him the perfect man for the job… And the job is done perfectly, with every single track going right to the point. Our favorites pieces remain the versions of The Booty Dance and How Do You Love A Black Woman? Two particularly striking tunes with this particular old school flavor we enjoy the most.

As a long time friend of our dear Jonas Sella (his brother in arms), Antoine Beaujean is the newest guard of the techno scene from Angers. After spending many nights behind the decks with the whole Timid Records crew and especially Arno Gonzales during the Modern parties, Beaujean also played alongside top artists such as Jerome Pacman, Agoria, Morpheus and more lately the great Jeff Mills. He started djaying as an intense party person, making every single of his appearance a wonderful mayhem, for the love of the dancefloor and the true spirit of rave. All this energy can be felt in the vivacity of is musical salad bowls. Eat Some!

Le netlabel Monófonicos a toujours été synonyme de qualité et cette huitième sortie, ne fera pas exception à la règle. Sorti il y a tout juste dix jours, ce LP de Juan Camilo Naranjo alias Vandelklang rassemble dix morceaux house aux tendances minimalistes, deep et funky. Malgré un bémol avec My House P, s’il y a bien une chose à dire c’est que la beauté des mélodies s’empare rapidement de votre esprit. Non pas pour nous déplaire, l’album est clôturé d’un track hip hop en collaboration avec Joed Kleem.

Monófonicos netlabel always appeared as a synonym of quality for us, and it seems that the release number 8 wont be an exception. This LP by Juan Camilo Naranjo alias Vandelklang was released 10 days ago. It’s composed of 10 housy tracks with minimalistic, deep, and funky influences. Its actually the beauty of the melodies that takes over your soul. And its quite a pleasure to enjoy a hip hop track at the last track of the album, a collaboration with Joed Kleem.

Flashback : on the fifth of november a huge party took place with an incredible line-up set by our lovely mate Raphaël. Into a beautiful loft, Pepperpot, Lerosa, Clayton Guifford and Gerd shared the vibe accross stunning moods of funk, house, disco, acid and techno sounds. Through this really charming roster Pepperpot gives us the pleasure to listen again to his performance on that night. Pepperpot, also known as Gregory Lambert, warmed-up the crowd, standing as usual as one of those pioneers of the electronic influences in France for more than 20 years. Previously resident DJ at El.ue, Enfer Club and the famous Batofar spot, he is nowadays at the controls of the Rex Club with the great Hello parties since near 3 years. A forthcoming Hello Music label will be highlighted soon whereas he just arrives into the Harry Klein family from Munich, alongside the beautiful Ana.

Fort de ses nombreuses signatures sur certains des plus prestigieux labels Techno (Curle, Delsin, Rush Hour, Clone) l’artiste hollandais Boris Bunnik s’offre une nouvelle signature sur le label néerlandais Delsin Records avec Escapism, un LP saisissant à sortir fin novembre. Plus connu sous son pseudonyme Conforce, ce dernier nous entraine avec lui à travers ces dix morceaux dans un voyage de 55 minutes à la fois intense, ténébreux et étincelant. Si chacune des pistes est excellente, on a tout particulièrement adoré Elude, qui évoque a elle seule toutes les couleurs de cet album, craqué sur la grosse bombe dub techno Within pour sa force et sa finesse, puis succombé à la majestuosité de Aquinas Control…

With his numerous releases on great techno labels such as Curle, Delsin, Rush Hour or also Clone, Holland-based artist Boris Bunnik comes back once again on Delsin Records, based in Holland too, with « Escapism », a new LP forthcoming lately this month. Better known under the Conforce moniker, he leds us into a fascinating travel accross 10 tracks for 55 minutes, an intense, darkened and above all shining one. Even if each track is awesome, we have adore « Elude » which highlight the best atmosphere surrounded through this album. « Within » is also really welcome, with a stunning dub techno rhythm filled with strength and finest vibe, and to complete our top 3 of the best track we would add « Aquinas Control », marbellous and pretty cool one.

Après une intro progressive et toute en finesse, vous vous laissez happer petit à petit dans son univers. Il gagne du terrain et dès la 8è minute et vous n’avez plus le choix de résister. Cet effet robot si particulier s’empare de vous sur cette grosse balle de minimal house dubby et vous lance dans une danse inconditionnée pour ne plus vous lâcher…

As he moved to Paris 4 years ago, Tim Dornbusch was an activist of the Minimal scene from Berlin since year 2000, and played in numerous clubs there. He’s now part of the collective Macadam Mambo from Paris, as well as part of Berlin label Haknam (a reference to a famous district of Honk Kong, Kwollon Walled City). After his EP released on Haknam in 2005, he concentrated on collaborations with his friends from Paris and Berlin. We first heard of him at the Zero Zero Bar in Paris, where he was playing back to back with Ana from Harry Klein. Today, he brings us a high quality set!!

After a very sensitive introduction with slight progression, you will get swallowed bits by bits into his universe. From the 8th minute, you cant resist to his strength. An unexpected robotic effect drags you along this minimalistic and bombastic track with proper dub and house influences, into an uncontrolled dance that you wont cease before it all stops. Have a nice one.

Nous ne recevons que très rarement des promos vinyles alors c’est donc avec grande attention que notre oreille s’est posée dans les sillons de ce disque magnifique. Après écoute, on a d’abord été surpris que ces morceaux viennent d’un producteur originaire de Bourgogne même s’il s’est exilé à Paris pendant 5 ans avant de s’installer à Berlin. On a ensuite été encore plus étonnés que ce soit le jeune Pierre-Nicolas Mader dont nous ne connaissions pas la facette de producteur. Pour ceux qui ne connaissent pas Pierre-Nicolas, il se cache derrière le fameux blog et fanzine Boing Poum Tchak!

Les 6 morceaux transportent dans une autre dimension. Deux morceaux courts, Under Fireworks… et In Mind sonnent comme des interludes. Une Nuit Américaine, d’où est tiré le titre de l’EP tend vers une deep-house mélancolique, alors que Poisson-Loup est le gros track dancefloor (dans le sens noble du terme) du maxi. Lourd, techno, deep et dub, c’est une bombe absolue, dont le break rendra fou le plus sain des esprits. Le disque se termine avec Sablier, un track ambient pour finir en douceur le voyage. Attention, pas de digital, 500 copies vinyle, et pas de repress en prévision !

We rarely get vinyl promos here, so we had a very careful listen when the needle dropped on this wonderful record. We were first absolutely surprised the producer was from the Bourgogne region in france, before moving to Paris during 5 years and then moving to Berlin. We ended up even more surprised that the young Pierre-Nicolas Mader was behind this release as we didnt know he was producing, but knew him for his very famous blog and webzine Boing Poum Tchak!

The 6 tracks of this release drag us into another dimension. Two short tracks Under Fireworks and In Mind sound a bit like interlude tracks. Une Nuit Americaine is more orientated towards meleancholic deep house vibes, when Poisson-Loup is a heavy but noble dancefloor track. This tune is just rough, techno, deep and dub, an absolute bomb with a mad drop, to make the healthiest go mental. The last track is called Sablier to end the journey with calm and ambient vibes. Be careful, no digital releases but only 500 vinyl copies will be released!

Alan Abrahams nait à Cape Town en Afrique du Sud et y restera toute sa tendre enfance. Aujourd’hui âgé de 40 ans, il réside à Berlin. Plus connu sous ses homonymes Bodycode et Portable, il a déjà 3 excellents albums à son actif  qui font de son curriculum vitae une exception. En effet, signé sur des labels aussi prestigieux que Perlon, Spectral Sound, Yore Records, Claque Musique, Scape ou encore Karat pour n’en citer que quelques uns, il fait partie des artistes dont le nom ne doit pas rester secret et est aussi à la tête de son propre label Süd Electronic créé en 2002.

We’ve been wondering for a long time who could be invited for the 100th edition of our podcast. Then, a few days ago, the answer became obvious. I saw him playing live three time and he never disappointed me. Every single time, he surprises us with the freshness of his groove, the originality of his sound texture, and the striking energy he sprays. This Friday in Rennes, I will have the honor to prepare a cbattlefield before him and his new liveset. Yes, you heard right, a new liveset meaning a new album. This one will be untitled Into Infinity and will be released on the legendary label Perlon.

First extremely happy and grateful that he accepted to offer us this live set as the accomplishment of a great serie of episodes of our podcast, I ended up absolutely stunned by the bright magic vibes flowing from this amazing hour. I was even happier discovering that this set blends perfectly his two personalities, Portable, the melodic one, and Bodycode, the energetic one.

Alan Abrahams was born and grew up in Cape Town, South Africa, and is now 40 years old, living in Berlin. More well known under his aliases Bodycode and Portable, he already released 3 amazing albums making him an exception. He also signed on prestigious labels such as Perlon, Spectral Sound, Yore Records, Claque Musique, Scape or even Karat to mention only a few of them. He’s one of those artists who’s name can’t stay secret, as he’s also already head of his own label Süd Electronic, created in 2002.

Ana is a young resident dj of the Harry Klein club in Munich, and one of my favourite musical memories of all times. Let me tell you about this night when she was playing at the Zero Zero bar in Paris. She delivered a Dante-esque back to back dj set alongside Tim Dornbush (one of the guys behind the young label Haknam and one of our future podcast guests). This party ended up with Alva Noto playing live at the Rex Club (Paris) with an other big musical slap in the face. My only duty was, after this wonderful night full of discoveries, to contact Ana (or the only person on earth who dances like me) so that she records a wonderful dj set for us, and she did without a doubt.

J’avais découvert Ackryte avec son track Spartacus Swing sorti sur le various Love Exposure que j’ai du écouter pas loin d’une centaine de fois. Il reviendra le 11 octobre aux côtés de Al_pd sur l’excellent label Cascade Records avec un LP intitulé Sententia. Que dire de plus à part qu’une fois de plus c’est une bonne réussite ? Les deux artistes américains nous offrent 8 morceaux d’abstract hip hop aux sonorités jazz. Mon track préféré ? If I May certainement. Sans doute à grâce à ce synthé qui me rappelle avec tendresse le parfait Spartacus Swing.

I discovered Ackryte thanks to his track Spartacus Swing, released on the amazing compilation « Love Exposure ». He will be back on the 11th of october alongside Al_pd on the great imprint Cascade Records, with an LP entitled Sententia. What could we say about this release, its a winning string again, the two american artists deliver 8 excellent abstract hip hop track with jazz influences. My favorite? probably « If I may », thanks to this perfect synthesiser reminding me of the sweet harmonies from « Spartacus Swing ».

Pourquoi avoir décidé de lancer ton label ? C’est quand même une bonne charge de boulot en plus non ?

Je pense qu’arrivé à un certain stade , si le contexte le permet, c’est la continuité de la carrière d’un dj/producteur ayant cherché sa propre définition de la musique au cours de ses années de djing. Depuis mon retour de Londres, je commençais à y penser. Pas mal de jeunes producteurs européens commençaient à m’envoyer des morceaux intéressants, pas spécialement dans le format des plateformes de ventes actuelles..Alors j’ai dit go.

La Vie En Rose. C’est comme ça que tu la voit ?

Je voulais quelque chose de français, je m’imaginais les anglais le prononcer. Et je suis un grand fan de Grace Jones qui rechanta l’orignal d’Edith Piaf. Je trouvais ce titre facile à décliner visuellement, et surtout ça correspondait parfaitement à ma rencontre avec Audrey.

Tu as nommé ton set «influences», peux-tu nous en dire un peu plus ? Quels ont été tes premiers et derniers amours musicaux ?

En fait l’idée de ce mix était de faire un peu un résumé de la musique électronique qui m’a bercé depuis tout jeune jusqu’à maintenant et qui était plutôt techno ou house (Detroit, New York, Chicago) avec des artistes comme Baby Ford, Speedy j, Bobby Konders, Ralph Falcon… et toutes les déclinaisons de cette époque. Dans la deuxièmes partie, il y a des références un peu plus actuelles.

Mes premiers amours, sans parler de mon entêtement pour la black music, étaient justement ce son que j’ai commencé à écouter milieu des années 90 dans les raves parisiennes où les djs mélangeaient cette musique americaine que je vous ai cité, avec des sons plus européens.

Les djs français qui m’ont définitivement le plus influencé à cette époque sont JEROME PACMAN, ARMAND, SONIC…

Aujourd’hui, beaucoup d’artistes bougent beaucoup, qu’est-ce qui t’a poussé à rester sur Paris (et à ne pas t’installer à Berlin comme beaucoup le font) ?

J’ai toujours beaucoup aimé Paris car c’est ici que toute mon inspiration et éducation musicale s’est faite. Mais aujourd’hui, Audrey et moi avions un projet que nous voulions développer en Espagne. Une agence de communication à la fois mode et musique mêlant nos deux univers. Nous nous sommes donc installés à Madrid.
Après, ayant testé Londres qui est une ville géniale, j’avais pensé aussi m’installer à Berlin avec mon ami Dyed Soundorom. Mais je me suis senti définitivement trop latin pour la vie berlinoise, même si la nightlife y est folle.

Le club ou la soirée parfaite pour toi ? Le meilleur public ?

De manière générale, j’aime jouer assez tard dans la nuit. Je pense que le meilleur public que j’ai eu c’était à Fabrick à Londres ou peut être à Goa Madrid..Dans ce genre de ville, les gens sont très impliqués d’un point de vue musical, il y a une réelle culture du clubbing, des références musicales, djs etc…

On te voit le 23 septembre à Nantes pour la Garden Party de notre pote Raphaël (Fragil Musique) t’es chaud ? A quoi pourrait ressembler ton mix ?

Alors je ne peux jamais dire à quoi ressemblera le mix. Par contre ce qui est sûr c’est qu’à chaque fois que Raphael m’a invité c’était génial !!!

After several releases on prestigious labels such as Cocoon, 20:20 Vision, Pschent, Robsoul, Freak n’ Chic and Highgrade, the dj and producer from Paris Terrence Benhaim recently decided to launch his own label called “La Vie En Rose” (which I had the pleasure to introduce in the last Trax Magazine). We had to get more information about this label. So here we asked a few questions to our guest of honor now known as Terence :Terry: who graced us with a varied and subtle set, a nice musical walk where music is (obviously) love.

Why did you decide to launch your own label? It’s a heavy workload you’re adding to your agenda, isn’t it?

Well, I’ve been thinking that, at one point, if the context allows it, it’s the extention of a dj/producer’s career who always looked for his own definition of music during all these years of activity. After my come back from London, I was starting to think about it. Several young European producers were starting to send me interesting tracks, not necessarily corresponding to the formats available on the “market” these days. So I said Let’s go.

“La Vie En Rose” is it how you see life?

I wanted a French name, I was having fun imagining English people pronouncing it. But im also a great fan of Grace Jones who did a cover of the original song from Edith Piaf. I thought the title was easy to transcript visually.

You named your last set “influences”, can you give us a few more explanations? What were your first and last musical passions?

The initial idea was to summarize the main electronic music tunes that influenced me from my young days until now. It was mostly Techno or House music back in the days as you can imagine, (Detroit, New York, Chicago) with artists such as Baby Ford, Speedy j, Bobby Konders,, Ralph Falcon.. And after all those from the early times, the second part is filled with more recent and inspiring tracks.
My first loves, without forgetting to mention my passion for black music, were those I discovered in the 90,s in first raves organized in Paris when DJs were mixing these American artists with more European influences. From these days, my favorite acts in France were Jerome Pacman, Armand, Sonic…

Nowadays, more and more artists start moving all around the place, why did you decide to stay around Paris (and not move to Berlin, like many DJs do)?

I always loved Paris, Its here that my musical inspirations and educations are from. Nowadays, Audrey and me have a project we want to develop in Spain. It’s a communication agency, blending both of our universes, fashion and music. We recently settled in Madrid for this project.
Also, after trying London, which is an amazing city, I thought about moving to Berlin with my friend Dyed Soundroom. But in the end, I felt way too Latin for the way of life, although the nightlife there is just crazy.

What is the perfect club in your opinion? Or the best audience?

I mostly prefer to play late sets, then I reckon that the best crowd I could experience was at Fabric in London, or maybe in Goa Madrid. In these cities, people are very involved musically, with a true club culture and references, making it even more interesting.

We will have the pleasure to see you on the 23rd of September in Nantes for the Garden Party of our friend Raphael (Fragil Musique). Are you pumped for this occasion? What could your mix sound like?

I can never tell how my sets will sound, but what I am definitely sure about is that every time Raphael invited me, the party was amazing.

The artist we are proud to welcome today is Swedish. Straight from Stockholm, this Dj and Producer also is boss of the label Ghost Sounds. He already produced several albums and EPs under the aliases relapxych.0 or Skyscraper. You will soon be able to hear his new remix under the name Skyscraper : a wonderful track named Shaping The Sky released last year on vinyl, that just went out on digital format. Anders Peterson aka A.P delivers a journey through dub techno, drone, idm and several trip hop influences. We particularly enjoyed the tracks from Athées and Andrea Porcu, two great discoveries.

Originaire de Londres mais maintenant basé à Tokyo, Max Essa a fait ses débuts sur le légendaire Warp Records en 1993. Durant les années 90 il a signé de nombreux disques sur les fameux labels house Paper Recordings et DiY Discs. Il a récemment reçu beaucoup d’éloges pour son travail sur l’écurie Bear Funk. En 2006 c’est son maxi Midnight Garden qui est plébiscité, combinant guitare et son baléarique dans un esprit résolument disco, voir cosmique. Depuis il a mis ses talents de remixeur à contribution sur des productions de Cantoma (Leng), Coyote (Is It Balearic?), 9dw (Ene Records) et Sorcerer (Tirk). Max a produit deux LPs en solo pour Bear Funk (‘Continental Drift’ en 2009 et ‘White Shoes Blue Dreams’ en 2010) tout comme des collaborations avec Stevie Kotey sur le LP Soirée avec ‘Zim Zim Zah Zah’.

En 2010 Max sort sur Is It Balearic? ‘Panorama Suite’, un morceau épique et réussi car il dure 20 minutes. Sur l’autre face du single c’est le morceau ‘Uptown Vibration’ remixé par Mark Seven, un morceau qui a conquis le ‘Furtive Fifty’ DJ History dans les meilleurs morceaux de l’année. Max crée la même année son propre label, Jansen Jardin, qui comprend ses propres productions et celle du chanteur japonais Yuki Suzuki.

En 2011 ses morceaux paraissent sur Bear Funk, Is It Balearic?, Feel Music, Needwant et Jansen Jardin. En avril il a lancé sa propre soirée intitulée Higher Ground, soirée qui se déroule au Loop à Ayoma, mais Max joue aussi dans les meilleurs endroits underground de Tokyo. Ses mixes sont construit autour de la deep house, du disco, de rock funky et d’une touche de Leftfield.

2011 is set to be an even busier year with releases on Bear Funk, Is It Balearic?, Feel Music, Needwant and Jansen Jardin. In April Max launched a new regular party, ‘Higher Ground’, at Loop in Aoyama and most weekends can be found DJing at some of Tokyo’s best underground venues. His sets encompass everything from deep house and disco to funky rock and leftfield oddities.

Sans vouloir rentrer dans le perpétuel débat du « c’était mieux avant », un désagrément doit tout de même être soulevé quant à la surproduction musicale actuelle : lorsque l’on tente de suivre cette masse considérable de sorties pour ne pas louper de pépites, on a parfois du mal à revoir ses classiques, à dénicher la perle rare dans les nombreuses années qui ont précédé notre venue au monde et l’éveil de notre perception auditive. C’est donc sans tarder, à l’écoute de ce chef-d’œuvre, que je me suis imposé de vous présenter Zavijava Orchestra et Rivers Of The Light, leur magnifique LP sorti en 1986 sur le label Mu-Psych Music, division de Futurehealth, leader mondial dans les domaines de la santé psychologique, la rétroaction biologique et les technologies de l’esprit. Zavijava est un duo synergique de musiciens formé par Charles Townsend et Christopher Faris. Parmi la liste des nombreux instruments et machines utilisées dans le dressement de ces sept merveilles se trouvent quelques synthés comme le fameux Juno-60, le Yamaha DX7, l’Oberheim Xpander et l’Ob-8 accompagné de l’Oberheim DSX ainsi que l’Ensoniq Mirage. Ont aussi été utilisés un piano acoustique, une harpe, une contrebasse, un vibraphone, un violon, un carillon à vent, une cymbale et un enregistreur. Cet album harmonique est le fruit d’un travail et d’une créativité que l’on retrouve rarement aujourd’hui.

Without coming back the eternal debate related to the saying “it was better before”, some little things still have to be reminded. As an example, in the overcrowded recent music boom, when you try to constantly follow the new masses of releases, it gets hard to review the classical tunes to find rare beauties from the times before we started understanding musical sweetness. From the time I heard this magical record I knew I had to introduce you to Zavijava Orchestra and Rivers Of The Light. Their wonderful ep on label Mu-Psych Music, a division of Futurehealth the world leader in psychological health, biological retroaction and spirit technologies. Zavijava is a great blend of the two musicians Charles Townsend and Christopher Faris. The list of instruments they use includes the famous Juno-60 , the Yamaha DX7, Oberheim Xpander, the Ob-8, along with the Oberheim DSX as well as the Ensoniq Mirage. An acoustic piano, harp, double bass, violin and other “real” stuff were also used, to produce a very harmonic album, fueled with a creativity very hard to find nowadays.
