Interview Nick Crombie from The Fix

General :
Hi Nick so firstly can you introduce yourself a bit ?

Hello my name is Nick Crombie, I’m originally from Manchester, now living in London and I’m one half of The Fix and Yeah:No Recordings.

What have you been up to recently ?

Just walking down the road trying to take it all in.

How started your collaboration with your « band partner » Steve Young ?

Steve and I were friends for years before we started making music together. I’m not quite sure how we came to get all this started, we just did and here we are.

Why the masks ? is there a special concept behind it ?

Our Friends put on a very cool event called the kitchen party (www.myspace.com/kitchenparytv) We played at one which was  fancy dress and we wore the masks. And they stuck with us.  For most of last year we wore them out on the road at gigs, to the shops and sometimes even out to dinner with our girlfriends. There a bit battered and smelly now so they’ve been retired.

Projects :
Can you introduce Label Yeah:No Recordings ?

We started the label to have control over our productions and output.  Apart from a track by German producers Superlounge we have only released our own material on Yeah:No.

What is your most recent release, remix ?

‘The Fire Inside’ was released mid February which inc a Lopazz remix and has been received very well. Were now just promoing a new track ‘ Are you in?’ which was inspired by a crazy party we played at  called ‘Into something’ @ Klub K4 in Slovenia.

Among all tracks you produced, which one is your favorite ?

Which ever one were currently working on is my favorite.

Recent track or release that you enjoyed the most ?

The support we got from Pete Tong on his Radio 1 essential selection for  ‘The Fire Inside’  was great!  He played it loads of times on his show and was very nice about the music.

How did your collaboration with label Get Physical for your remix of Lopazz’s ‘Credit Card Receipt’ started ?

We have the same booking agent as Lopazz (www.wildebookings.com ) Steffan Echingher aka Lopazz is a very cool guy. He likes our sound and we like his sound. We got to talking and the rest followed.

Some other remixes or collaboration to come ?

Loads of ideas and possibilities, lets see what materialises.

Production :
Can you speak a bit about what you use for producing? Are you more of hardware or software producers ?

A very large Mac computer, Logic pro, Abelton, keyboards, a few maracas and loads of software.

What kind of « gear » do you use in live acts, Ableton ? Midi controllers ? why these choices ?

For our live shows we use Abelton Live with midi controllers. Were fans of the Ableton platform, its very user friendly.

Gigs :
Can you talk a bit about your residency ?

Our residency is at the Cadence party which is held at the Lightbox in Vauxhall- London. The venue is amazing. Fantastic sound and 15000 led lights wrapped around the inside of an arch.
It reminds me of Watergtate in Berlin which we have been lucky to play at. Cadence is the last Friday of every month and is  going great.
We have had Audiofly,  Livio and Roby, Lopazz, play. And Tim Green, Thomas Schumacher and Martin Landsky are booked go play the next few gigs
(www.myspace.com/cadencelondon)

What is the best party you played at so far ?

Into Something @ Klub K4 , The Fusion Festival , Watergate, Cadence @ The Lightbox  etc etc…

Best venue you played in ?

Watergate or  The Lightbox

Then which venue would you love to play in ?

The Womb in Tokyo is high on the list

Random :
Tell us a bit about your producing sessions, live preparations ?

We get together at the studio, drink coffee, eat biscuits, play with the cat,  go through ideas see what can be shaped up, maybe go and play some tennis,  play with the cat again , drink more coffee,  eat more biscuits.
keep repeating this process until something happens.

A few words you would like to say to all our dear Input Selector readers ?

Everything you can imagine is real.

And to finish few word for the Input Selector crew :) ?
Keep on selecting the good input..  :)

Many Thanks to Nick Crombie from duo The Fix…
