For one year I have been actively following the great blog MNML SSGS, which I discovered through the deep session vol 1 recorded by Neel (probably the most beautiful deep house set I have ever heard). Their mix series inspired me a lot when my attention was focused mainly on minimal/house/tech house (and not necessarily the best kind of it). MNML SSGS greatly contributed to making me fall in love with techno, we’re talking about the real one here. From there I was able to push forward my sound perception, always seeking for deepness and quality. Every week, Chris and his mate PC are exposing exceptional mixes, playlists etc… A bit like here but more techno-oriented. Also on Sundays they have more ambient and quiet sessions called « Sunday Sounds ».

When Chris published his superb Into Light mix, I thought about asking him for a podcast in order to share his musical perception from his side of the world. Indeed, Chris lives in Japan but travels the world to feed and honor our ears. Dear listeners we wish you a great time on this Sunday to travel through the magic of stars in the deepness of a boundless sky. I will not say anymore, and let him speak.

« When we started MNML SSGS in 2007 we didn’t really know exactly what it was going to be like or how it would turn out, we just knew we were frustrated and wanted to find a way to contribute to electronic music on our own terms. Well, the blog has certainly allowed us to do this and much more… One recent development has been us venturing out into the ‘real world’: we held a party at Dommune in Tokyo in October 2010, then a Christmas party in Melbourne in December 2010. The next step is our first proper club night. It is on 20 March 2011 at Module, Tokyo and we have invited Convextion to play live and DJ Sprinkles (aka Terre Thaemlitz) to spin for the rest of the night. In the side room, we are going to have an old school chill out room, with DJs playing ambient, downbeat, and IDM. The chill out room was a really important component of parties for us when we first started going out, and we are very sad that it has basically disappeared. So for our MNML SSGS party we are really happy to be able to bring it back, even if only for one night… I will be DJ’ing in the chill out room, and this mix is a good representation of the kind of sound I will be playing: deepspace ambient. It is a style that I really love and is an important part of my musical palette.

Thanks to Arnaud for inviting me to contribute to the Input Selector series. I was really happy when I heard his MNML SSGS inspired mix – I felt he really understood what we were about, so when he gave me the chance to contribute to Input Selector, I was very happy to oblige. Thanks also to Martin Dust for providing some of the beats, and to my fellow ssg PC. I hope you enjoy the trip. »
