Best track to slaughter a dancefloor?

I guess ‘slaughter’ can mean bad or good, right? This one’s not for the faint-hearted. I played this one at my own night thinking ‘finally, I have somewhere to play this track’ but I have to say my own reaction on a club soundsystem was ‘woah, this might be a bit too heavy’, haha.

Le track idéal en after ? Best track for an after party?

It depends on the nature of the afterparty! Sometimes it can go for a while and we’re still playing techno. But I think this one I chose would be nice for a more relaxed one, but still with the foot tapping/head-nodding. An old Photek alias.

Le track idéal pour commencer un set ? Best track to start a set?

I should say first that this clip is not the full track – the real version is about 18 mins long and it’s the ultimate ‘builder’. I like to put this one at the start of the night – maybe when there’s no-one yet in the club, and I have been known to go and stand in the middle of the dancefloor and just listen to it on my own. It’s such a monster.

Le track idéal pour avoir le smile ? Best track to make people smile?

One of the best vocals EVER. Such incredible emotion in this song. It becomes very poignant when you do some research about the story behind the track (look it up).

Best track with an 18 year old wine sitting in a rocking chair next to the fireplace?

I love Beach House! I could have picked so many of their songs. Perfect melancholic, warm and fuzzy music.

Le track idéal pour replonger en enfance ? Best track to dive back into childhood?

I’m cheating a little bit. I really do find this such an evocative song, but for years I didn’t realise why. It’s basically a loop from an old Roxy Music song, which my parents used to play. There aren’t many songs that have made me cry, but this one sometimes catches me offguard.

Le track idéal pour te réveiller ? Best track to wake you up?

This is literally the song/mix that wakes me up – it’s the alarm clock on my phone. The first couple of tracks on here are INCREDIBLE. I considered that I could never start the day in a bad mood if I hear this, but it might make me stay in bed too long! I met Leafar Legov from Giegling recently and was hassling him about what these first tracks are and when they’ll be released. He told me that actually he produced the first one. I’m playing after his live set at a festival this weekend and he promised me he’d play this!

Le track idéal à n’importe quelle heure ? Best track at any time?

I remember really loving this when I was a kid in 1989. I don’t know how many times I’ve heard it in my life… hundreds. But I still love it. I still play it occasionally. My sister got married several years ago and there was this classic ‘wedding DJ’ character playing the tunes. But he had this tune on one of his CDs, so I requested it. I have fond memories of dancing with my family to it, so I guess it works in many occasions.

Le track idéal pour caractériser tes productions ? Best track to characterize your productions?

(I don’t produce)

Best track to summarize your musical inspirations?

My musical inspirations are far and wide, from alternative rock to hip-hop, house and techno. But Jeff is The King and this was the mix that made me want to DJ in the first place.
