IS 254 – Simos Ares [Cannibal Radio]

Au hasard d’un passage en Grèce cet été, nous nous sommes dirigés vers l’Astron Bar, petit club situé dans le centre d’Athènes qui propose de la techno de qualité et des toilettes qui ne se ferment pas (on doit frapper à la porte et attendre une éventuelle réponse avant de pouvoir entrer !). Du line up du soir composé de résidents locaux, nous avions retenu principalement la performance énergique, variée, et parfois même atonale, de Simos Ares. Il avait alors enflammé le dancefloor de l’Astron pour un pur moment techno. Impressionnés, nous avions questionné quelques personnes présentes afin de pouvoir l’identifier.

Domicilié à Athènes, il est un héros local qui joue de la musique électronique depuis les années 90, et présente chaque vendredi soir l’émission The Raving Shoe sur Cannibal Radio. À côté des énormes clubs commerciaux, il semble que la Grèce possède une scène underground très intéressante, et après des artistes tels que 3.14 et Audio Atlas, nous sommes ravis d’accueillir Simos Ares pour une heure de techno impitoyable.

Last summer during a trip in Greece, we randomly went to Astron Bar, a tiny club in the center of Athens which has quality techno parties. On that night among the line up of locals, we were particularly impressed with the performance of one DJ who managed to deliver a driving set which raised the energy of the whole dancefloor.

Simos Ares lives in Athens and is a bit of a local hero. Playing electronic music since the 90’s, he is a regular in many Greek clubs, and also has his own radio show The Raving Shoe on Cannibal Radio. Besides the huge commercial clubs, there is no denying that Greece seems to have a vibrant underground scene, and after artists such as 3.14 and Audio Atlas, we are happy to welcome Simos Ares on Input Selector for an hour of ruthless techno.
