Best track to slaughter a dancefloor?

This track is very well-known but most disco/house DJs would agree… It always sounds good. It always makes people dance, even if they say that they prefer « electronic ». A peculiar mixture of programmed arpeggios vs. live synth bass, it sounds soulful yet modern at the same time. It doesn’t exactly « destroy » but it still rocks..

Le track idéal en after ? Best track for an after party?

Just so melancholic soulful groovy don’t stop dancing…

Le track idéal pour commencer un set ? Best track to start a set?

I play this often just to start a set. I don’t know other Djs who do. I suppose it announces a kind of jazz-pop instrumental virtuosity. It literally says « ok now the show begins »

Le track idéal pour avoir le smile ? Best track to make people smile?

Most hetero boys would never play this and some don’t admit liking it. All the gay boys and the girls cheer. I still play it to make people happy. It still sounds amazing.

Best track with an 18 year old wine sitting in a rocking chair next to the fireplace?

Pure old Philadelphia instrumental soul. 1975.

Le track idéal pour replonger en enfance ? Best track to dive back into childhood?

This was one moment in my childhood. And I couldn’t understand why no other Chinese person or any of my classmates in 6th grade didn’t think it was the grooviest song in the world. Plus Patrice Rushen « forget me nots »!

Le track idéal pour te réveiller ? Best track to wake you up?

Pure Bossa. But I prefer waking up to my Nokia mobile phone alarm bell.

Le track idéal à n’importe quelle heure ? Best track at any time?

Not because of any association with Brasil or tropical beaches, which unfortunately is inevitable. I find the melody and the rhythm simply so elemental, so light yet full of ironic gentle emotion at the same time. The way Jobim plays the motif with just two fingers on a Fender Rhodes piano is unforgettable.

Le track idéal pour caractériser tes productions ? Best track to characterize your productions?

Actually I am still dissatisfied with the technical rhythm production in this track but the structure and composition still are unique.

Best track to summarize your musical inspirations?

It’s really jazz soul on a 4/4 disco beat but the gentle melancholy in the violins show an eastern european influence, a kind of Saudade almost. Similar to the way Jobim cites Chopin in his samba, Vince Montana actually almost sounds like Stravinsky or Rachmaninov here. But you don’t notice while you are dancing.
